I've visited several spectacular cemeteries outside of the Chicago area recently. Bellefontaine in St. Louis is probably the most visually stunning graveyard I have seen yet. It's neighbor, Calvary, is nearly as impressive. Oak Ridge in Springfield, Illinois, contains the tomb of President Lincoln, and a number of other fantastic monuments, with its rugged terrain providing interesting viewpoints.
Greenmount is one of the largest cemeteries in the tri-state area. Since 1875, it is estimated that over 30,000 individuals have been interred.
